The updated version of Samsung’s Odyssey G9 monitor will feature much better local dimming performance than its predecessor. This is according to a list of early specifications published by Chinese online retailer TaoBao, which reveal that the ultra-wide 49-inch display will boast as many as 2,048 local dimming zones—a massive improvement over the current model’s measly 10 vertical dimming zones. Other key specifications of Samsung’s updated Odyssey G9 monitor include a 5120 x 1440 resolution, 240 Hz, 1 ms GTG VA panel with 1000R curvature and support for DisplayHDR 2000. The display is also NVIDIA G-SYNC compatible.

For connectivity 2x DisplayPort and 1x HDMI (unclear which version) connections are listed along with 2x USB ports and an audio output. RGB lighting is featured on the screen as well like the current G9. PbP is also listed as a feature. The pricing on Taobao should probably be taken with a pinch of salt as this is very early information and we expect this to be quite a long way from release to be honest. It’s listed at 29999 RMB, which is about $4599 USD. We expect it to be lower than that really when it’s properly released.
