BioWare has shared a new 4K trailer for Mass Effect Legendary Edition that shows off just how much better the remastered editions of the sci-fi RPGs look in comparison to their original counterparts. As the footage distinctly proves, everything from 3D models and skin textures to lighting and particle effects have been improved, resulting in a level of visual enhancement that arguably allows the remasters to pass as legitimate next-gen releases. Mass Effect fans will want to check out BioWare’s new blog post on the official site, which explains how the team managed to bring the beloved trilogy into the modern era.

When we started working on the Legendary Edition, we were overcome with a sense of nostalgia and curiosity. We know there is really something special in how the art and narrative work together to create this fully realized universe. To us, there’s a sense of “soul” to these games, and we truly believe we’ve been able to strike a balance between making meaningful enhancements while retaining the same atmosphere and feel of the original releases.
