NVIDIA’s flagship Turing graphics card, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, can be modified to support twice as much memory as what green team had originally intended for the SKU. This has seemingly been confirmed by Russian modder VIK-on, who shared a video last week demonstrating how enthusiasts could use a mod to verify that the GPU can function with 22 GB of GDDR6 memory. Unfortunately, VIK-on could not source the proper modules to actually complete the upgrade due to ongoing shortages.

Should 16Gbit modules were ever available to VIK-on or any other modder with the same knowledge and experience, we should see a fully working RTX 2080 Ti with 22GB of memory. Do note that without actually replacing the modules to higher capacity, the system may boot, but it is not stable enough to use. In fact, the GPU renders severe artifacts which might be enough to verify the mod, but not good enough for any other use.
