4K Gaming Performance

Next up, we’ll place all the chips in the middle of the table and see how the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING performs at the 4K resolution. As we know from prior testing, the 3070 class GPUs should be in the same ballpark of the RTX 2080 Ti, but this time we have a factory overclocked RTX 2080 Ti so we can expect it to work in some games at 4K and not in others. All of the games are running at the highest quality selections available sans Ray Tracing and DLSS which we will look at separately. For each game, we are using the game benchmark included with the game and reporting the average frames per second. Note that we did not report results on Watch Dogs: Legion as it simply requires more than 8GB of VRAM in order to run maxed out at 4K.

Cyberpunk 2077

In Cyberpunk 2077, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING turned in 29.3 FPS across the manual run-through. This does not represent a good playing experience at all which is consistent with the AMD Radeon RX 6800’s FPS. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING bumped up the FPS to 31.2 which was not enough to make a difference other than jumping above the RX 6800 in the charts.

Horizon Zero Dawn

In Horizon Zero Dawn, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING achieved 61 FPS which is a hair under the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti at 61.3 FPS and two hairs under the AMD Radeon RX 6800 at 63 FPS. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING added a shaved hair to its performance with 61.3 FPS.

Red Dead Redemption 2

In Red Dead Redemption 2, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING chalked up 42.3 FPS which was behind the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti at 46.6 FPS and the AMD Radeon RX 6800 at 45.3 FPS. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING bumped it up to 44.9 FPS but still left it at the back of the pack. Based on the performance observed, we would not suggest maxing out image quality on any of these cards at 4K to play Red Dead.

Metro Exodus

In Metro Exodus, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING delivered 40.4 FPS which was below the 42.3 FPS and 42.2 FPS that the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti turned in, respectively. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING moved it to the top of the pile at 42.6 FPS. Regardless, this is not a game you’ll want to play at 4K with any of these cards.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING flipped through 59 frames per second which tied the ASUS ROG STRIX 2080 Ti’s 59 frames flipped per second. Both were out flipped by the AMD Radeon RX 6800 which provided 66 flips. Overclocking the EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING increased its performance to 64 FPS but was still unable to out-flip the competition.
