Netflix is developing a series based on Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures’ immensely popular and best-selling media franchise, Pokémon. According to Variety’s exclusive report, Netflix’s Pokémon series will be a live-action one comparable to the Detective Pikachu film released in 2019 starring Ryan Reynolds and Justice Smith. Sources say that Joe Henderson, who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer on Netflix’s Lucifer, will write and executive produce the new Pokémon series. Nothing is known about the plot yet, however.

The move to develop an original Netflix Pokemon series comes as the streamer has made itself the home to multiple existing Pokemon shows, including “Pokemon: Indigo League” and “Pokemon Journeys” among others. Netflix has also been making a strong push into anime in recent years, having previously announced original series based on “Far Cry,” “Splinter Cell,” and “Terminator.”

  1. Thankfully, I don’t care about Pokemon in any way or I’d be horrified at the thought of how Netflix was going to ruin it.

Nothing to ruin really, the storyline can be anything really, the games have no story.

Except, that’s not true. While the games may not, the franchise started with an anime.

  4. At first I was like wuhhh , but yeah Netflix will make a series about anything nowadays. And cancel it after 1-2 seasons no matter how popular it is.
