Marvel Studios has released a final peek at its 26th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Eternals.

Featuring a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Angelina Jolie and Salma Hayek, Eternals is centered around a group of immortal aliens who have secretly lived on Earth for over 7,000 years. Comprising ten members with fantastic superpowers, they have vowed to protect the planet from their evil counterparts, the Deviants.

The new Eternals trailer helps to answer some burning questions that Marvel fans have had in light of major events that have transpired in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: namely, why didn’t they bother to do anything when Thanos snapped his fingers and eradicated a ton of life on earth?

According to the trailer, the Eternals had to sit idly by due to the commands of their overlords, the Celestials. These are extremely powerful extraterrestrial cosmic beings who helped shaped human evolution and influenced major events in their history. One Celestial, who seems to resemble Arishem the Judge, can be seen briefly in the trailer.

Eternals will presumably elaborate on the Celestials’ plan for earth and why the planet is so important to the fate of the universe. The film will be released exclusively in theaters on November 5.

Chloé Zhao directs the film, and Kevin Feige and Nate Moore are the producers, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso and Kevin de la Noy serving as executive producers. The story is by Ryan Firpo & Matthew K. Firpo, and the screenplay is by Chloé Zhao & Patrick Burleigh.
