Brendan Fraser will reportedly star as the villain in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ upcoming live-action adaption of one of the Bat family’s most notable members, Batgirl. The casting news comes from Deadline’s sources, who believe that Fraser is signing up for the role of Firefly, a pyromaniac armed with flamethrowers, napalm, and other fire-based weapons. Fraser is best known for his roles in Universal Pictures’ trilogy of Mummy movies.

From Deadline:

The film will bow on HBO Max, marking one of the first major DC properties to debut exclusively on the streamer. Christina Hodson penned the script with Kristin Burr producing.

While plot details are under wraps, it is known that Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Commissioner Gordon, will be the character behind the cape in this version. Gordon is the most established version of the Batgirl character and was first introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane.

Actress Leslie Grace (In the Heights) will play the film’s eponymous character. Grace beat out Haley Lu Richardson (Split), Zoey Deutch (Zombieland: Double Tap), and Isabela Merced (Transformers: The Last Knight) for the coveted role.
