Volition CCO Jim Boone has shared a short letter revealing that the new Saints Row reboot will no longer make its original release date of February 25, 2022. The latest installment of the open-world, GTA-inspired franchise is now slated for release six months later on August 23, 2022. As expected, Boone explained that Volition required the additional time for quality purposes.

From Boone:

Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.

In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive.

Announced in August, Saints Row takes place in a brand-new city called Santo Ileso and will tell the story of how the Saints came to be. The game has received criticism from long-time fans over its new art direction and character designs, which don’t line up with the older titles.
