Santa Monica Studio’s highly anticipated sequel to its 2018 action-adventure blockbuster, God of War, will be released for PS5 and PS4 consoles next fall.

This is according to Sony’s own PlayStation database, which has reportedly listed God of War Ragnarök with a release date of September 2022. The listing was spotted by PlayStation Game Size, a Twitter account that regularly monitors and reports on the download sizes of upcoming PlayStation titles.

“According To Playstation Database, God of War Ragnarök Coming September 30th 2022,” the account tweeted before warning that the date could be just a placeholder. That said, 9/30/22 happens to be a Friday, a day that’s not a total stranger to triple-A game releases.

“Fans who played the last game know they were able to visit six of the Nine Realms during their journey,” Santa Monica Studios wrote during God of War Ragnarök’s reveal in September. “In God of War Ragnarök, you will be able to visit all nine!”

God of War Ragnarök will take you to the previously unreachable Vanaheim, Svartalfheim, and Asgard – as well as to new areas from locations featured in the last game. Exploring the realms will take you everywhere from verdant, otherworldly jungles to intricate subterranean mining networks.”

God of War Ragnarök may not be released for the PC until years after its PS4 and PS5 versions. This is based on the PC port of 2018’s God of War, which is finally launching on January 14, 2022—nearly four years after the original’s release on PlayStation 4.
