Users have found that flashing their GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics cards with a GeForce RTX 3090 BIOS can increase hash rates. CryptoDonkeyMiner shared the process in a video on YouTube, showing the card going from 77 MH/s to 90+ MH/s.

He and other users report that using BIOSes from different manufacturers can have different results, or none at all. With the BIOS for a Dell GeForce RTX 3090, he was able to push his Inno3D GeForce RTX 3080 Ti iCHILL X3 to 110 MH/s.

Others have reported success with a number of cards that include those from ASUS and MSI, while some have reportedly managed to do this with Founders Editions. Some GIGABYTE owners say they saw no or little changes, while others managed to make it work.

One user said they tried the EVGA BIOS recommended in the video without any noticeable change but found success with a different model BIOS. The software reported incorrect power usage, but they were able to verify the actual draw at the wall using a wattmeter.

Owner Beware

TweakTown reports that the trick only works on cards with a device ID of 2204. While the process is fairly straightforward, it comes with significant risks such as bricking the card. Warranties are unlikely to cover the damage incurred from doing this.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
