PCMark 10

Standard PCMark Benchmark

In the first graph, we are looking at PCMark 10 standard benchmark test, which is an overall system test. PCMark 10 runs a gauntlet of different office, content creation, and desktop workloads. Right off the bat, the new Intel Core i5-12400 seems faster than the Ryzen 5 3600X, and faster than the Ryzen 5 5600G, and is practically as fast as the 5600X. It’s within 1% of 5600X performance! The i5-12400 is 6% faster than the Ryzen 5 5600G. Let’s see how it does in Microsoft Office below.

PCMark Application Benchmark

In this graph, we are looking at PCMark 10’s Applications Benchmark.  This test is very specific, it tests the performance of Microsoft Office, using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and even Edge. We are using Microsoft Office 2021 for these tests. Wow, in office applications the new Intel Core i5-12400 actually comes out on top! It’s faster than the Ryzen 5 5600X and faster than the Ryzen 5 5600G by 7%. It’s clear that the new 12400 is a top-performer for office workloads for less money.

3DMark

CPU Profile

We are using 3DMark Professional’s CPU Profile test. This test specifically tests CPUs and reports an overall score, it tests various thread counts. We are going to report on the “Max Threads” and “1-Thread” results only. Remember, all CPUs here are using the same core and thread count, 6 Cores/12 Threads. We say this because wow, look at how much faster the Core i5-12400 is over the Ryzen 5 3600X. It’s 18% faster, which is very significant. The Core i5-12400 is also actually 3% faster than the Ryzen 5 5600X, despite having the same thread count and slightly faster than the 5600G as well.

In this test above we are testing just a single thread of performance, this really shows how good single-thread performance differs. The Core i5-12400 is faster than the Ryzen 5 3600X by a whopping 23% and is also 3% faster than the 5600G. However, the 5600X does surpass it on single-thread performance, but only slightly. The 12400 is pretty much between the 5600G and 5600X.

Geekbench 5

Next up we have the latest version of Geekbench 5.  This benchmark tests overall CPU performance and can show us a result in both multi-core and single-core performance. In Geekbench 5 the new Intel Core i5-12400 comes out much farther on top in performance, beating the 5600X by 6% in multi-threading performance. It’s 8% faster than the 5600G and 17% faster than the 3600X. Considering all CPUs have the same thread count, that’s a pretty impressive performance uplift for the 12400.

In Single-Thread testing in Geekbench 5 the Intel Core i5-12400 is also very strong, once again just peeking over 5600X performance. It actually has a bigger lead over the 5600G by 10% and faster than the 3600X by 27%.

PassMark Performance Test

PassMark’s PerformanceTest CPU Mark benchmark tests various CPU workloads, including encryption. In PassMark PerformanceTest the Intel Core i5-12400 is 5% faster than the 3600X but is beat the 5600G and 5600X. This test stresses some multi-media functions, which the AMD CPUs are very strong at as SiSoftware Sandra will show.
