A Plague Tale: Requiem isn’t the only thing that fans of Asobo Studio’s narrative-rich franchise can look forward to, as Allocine has learned that the original, critically acclaimed 2019 title is the latest in a long line of video games to be adapted into a TV series.

According to the publication, Asobo had received offers from US production studios to adapt A Plague Tale into a show but ended up passing on them so it could remain closer to the game’s setting and location of the developer, which calls Bordeaux, France, its home. A schedule for the film’s production or casting has yet to be announced, but Mathieu Turi, whose credits include assistant director on Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, has confirmed his involvement in the upcoming series via Twitter.

A Plague Tale invites players to take control of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo on a heartbreaking journey in France in 1348, during the Hundred Years’ War. After their parents are killed, the two have to manage their way through Inquisition soldiers, swarms of rats, and other terrible dangers in order to survive.

The sequel, A Plague Tale: Requiem, was announced in June 2021 during the E3 2021 Xbox Games Showcase. In their quest to build a new life and control Hugo’s curse, Amicia and her brother have fled from their ravaged lands and moved south to vibrant cities and other new areas, where they hope to build a new life and control Hugo’s curse.

A Plague Tale: Requiem will be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC in 2022. Xbox/PC Game Pass subscribers can also look forward to seeing the game on day one in their libraries.

A Plague Tale: the extraordinary medieval fantasy world of the game will be adapted into a series (Allocine)

  • Fantastic and merciless odyssey of two children in a medieval France ravaged by the plague, “A Plague Tale”, released in 2019 and developed by the Bordeaux studio Asobo, will soon be adapted into a TV series!
  • We learn from our colleagues from Ecran Total that an adaptation of the license into a TV series is on the way. This future series will be directed by Mathieu Turi ; assistant director on Tarantino ‘s Inglourious Basterds , Lucy and 3 Days to Kill ; moved on to directing his feature debut with the horror film Hostile .
  • “It is fundamental for me that our productions reflect French talents and know-how. A Plague Tale is a game designed in Bordeaux by Asobo that we produce with a company based in Paris; its creators had the opportunity to sell the adaptation in the United States, but they preferred to work with French people: I want to return that trust to them” comments Fabrice Renault , head of the Merlin Productions structure, which will be in charge of the production of this TV series.
