Ubisoft has published a support article confirming that it has shut down the multiplayer and online services for many of its older games. The list includes many classics and fan favorites, such as Assassin’s Creed 2, Far Cry Blood Dragon, and the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games. Ubisoft has clarified that players can continue to enjoy their offline (i.e., single player) modes, but online play is no longer possible, nor is the ability to view in-game news and updated player statistics.

Multiplayer and Online Services availability in Ubisoft games (Ubisoft)

The online multiplayer services for the titles listed [above] have now been shut down. The offline features for each game remain available. In-game news and player statistics have also been disabled. For games that used Ubisoft Connect services, Units and Challenges will be disabled, meaning you will no longer be able to earn Units by completing Challenges for the game.

Rewards can still be unlocked, however you will not be able to receive them in-game. If your game did not transfer when we moved from Uplay to Ubisoft Connect in 2020, all rewards will be automatically unlocked. Unlockable content (ULC) such as maps and skins will also be disabled, meaning that you will no longer be able to unlock them. On PC, ULC will no longer be available even if it has been redeemed previously. On console, the ULC will continue to be available unless you reset your saved game files.

“Some of our games (Anno 2070, Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed III, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Driver San Francisco, Far Cry 3, Silent Hunter 5, and Splinter Cell Blacklist) were taken offline for a short maintenance and services have been restored,” Ubisoft said in a statement last week after scaring users into thinking that their servers had been closed permanently. Unfortunately, this has turned out to be the case for some of those titles.
