Marvel Studios has released the official trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, giving fans a look at some of the film’s biggest stars beyond franchise staple Chris Hemsworth, who appears more jacked than ever in his latest portrayal of the eponymous thunder god. Among those are veteran actors Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, who will appear in the upcoming film as Gorr the God Butcher and Zeus, respectively. Gorr the God Butcher is depicted in the comics as an alien supervillain that, as his name implies, intends on ridding the universe of gods after blaming them for his misfortunes and does so with the help of a weapon called the Necrosword. Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters on July 8.
The film finds Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced — a search for self-discovery. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi), and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who — to Thor’s surprise — inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.
