GOG is currently giving away free copies of Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, a 2D platformer by developer WayForward Technologies that was initially released for the Nintendo DS in 2014. Users of the DRM-free storefront have until Wednesday, June 15th, 2022 to claim the game, which follows the eponymous half-genie hero’s quest to save Sequin Land from the Pirate Master. Included in the GOG promotion are two goodies in the form of avatars and wallpapers. Other games that WayForward Technologies has developed since its inception in 1992 include Contra 4, DuckTales: Remastered, and, more recently, River City Girls 2, a sequel to 2019’s spin-off of the classic beat ’em up franchise.

Embark on an all-new adventure with Shantae, the hair-whipping belly dancing genie. After losing her magic, Shantae teams up with the nefarious pirate Risky Boots in order to save Sequin Land from a curse. As a pirate, Shantae gains new weapons to advance her quest, slay monsters, battle epic bosses…and hopefully get her magic back in the bargain!
