Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions confirmed last month that it was developing a live-action Gran Turismo movie, one that would be directed by District 9 and Elysium’s Neill Blomkamp. Deadline has now received more information regarding the project, including an expected release date of August 11, 2023. An updated logline has also been released, revealing that the movie based on Polyphony Digital’s premier racing franchise will be based on a true story and center around a teenage Gran Turismo player who becomes a professional race car driver. Blomkamp is also working a video game called Off the Grid, an upcoming battle royale shooter from the developers at Gunzilla Games. Polyphony Digital released its seventh installment of Gran Turismo for PS4 and PS5 consoles in March, although its release was met with much controversy due to microtransactions.

Sony has set an August 11, 2023, release date for Gran Tursimo, the video game adaptation from director Neill Blomkamp and Columbia Pictures. Jason Hall wrote the screenplay, and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan serve as producers alongside Doug Belgrad, and Dana Brunetti.

Here is the updated logline: Based on a true story, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional race car driver.
