Koei Tecmo has shared a trailer and some early details for Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a newly announced masocore (portmanteau of “masochism” and “hardcore”) title from Team NINJA that centers on a nameless militia soldier who must tackle demons and other deadly enemies during the Later Han Dynasty of ancient China’s Three Kingdoms period. A joint creation from Fumihiko Yasuda (Nioh) and Masaaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne), the game will challenge players to test their skills as sword practitioners with a battle system based on the Chinese martial arts, including those of the Wuxing, otherwise known as the “Five Phases.” Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is currently in development and scheduled to release in early 2023 for PC (Windows and Steam), Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, and PS4 platforms. It will also be available on day one with Game Pass on console and PC.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty follows the dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within.
