Netflix has released a teaser trailer for Blonde, the streamer’s first original movie to earn an NC-17 rating, a rating that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) generally reserves for films containing content only suitable for ages 18 and older. The movie was directed by Andrew Dominick and stars Ana de Armas as Norma Jeane Mortenson, chronicling the actress, model, and singer’s rise from a traumatic childhood to her transformation into notorious golden superstar, Marilyn Monroe. Blonde was given an NC-17 rating by the MPAA for “some sexual content.” The movie will be available to stream on Netflix beginning September 23.

“Andrew’s ambitions were very clear from the start — to present a version of Marilyn Monroe’s life through her lens,” de Armas told Netflix Queue. “He wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane. I found that to be the most daring, unapologetic, and feminist take on her story that I had ever seen.”

According to Queue, re-creating Monroe’s signature look required de Armas to spend nearly three hours in hair and makeup each morning. Still, physical resemblance isn’t the only way Blonde pays tribute to the late star. Fans will certainly catch some Marilyn Monroe Easter eggs peppered throughout the film’s new teaser, which you can watch below. The song playing in the background, for example, is “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend,” which Monroe sings in the 1953 hit Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and there’s even a shot of the famous Seven Year Itch white dress.
