Team Kanohi has released a new gameplay preview trailer for its free LEGO game built using Unreal Engine 5 called BIONICLE: Masks of Power. It is an open-world action-adventure game that began as another project in 2015 and then evolved into its own game. Team Kanohi was formed during this period as the projects grew and it has been offering its BIONICLE-based games for free on Steam and its own website.

BIONICLE: Masks of Power is an all-new action adventure game set in the BIONICLE universe. Currently in development by Team Kanohi, BIONICLE: Masks of Power is an ambitious fan project that retells the legendary stories of BIONICLE’s initial launch in 2001. Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, Mata Nui and its inhabitants have been completely re-imagined for the modern day. Revisit beloved locations and characters, brave the dangers of Mata Nui, and get lost in the BIONICLE universe all over again.

As an open world action/adventure game, BIONICLE: Masks of Power features exploration, combat, platforming, quests, and more. Drawing inspiration from games like NieR:Automata for combat, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for world design and exploration, BIONICLE: Masks of Power aims to create a world that is engaging to explore, with gameplay mechanics that encourage experimentation with different ways to conquer whatever obstacles the player may find.

This latest game aims to retell the original story of BIONICLE where players can pick from six different characters to explore the island of Mata Nui. Players can seek out 12 different masks of power and interact with 6 tribes on the island as they learn the story of Mata Nui and embark on quests.

BIONICLE: Masks of Power started as a project in 2015, when development on the original version of the game, eventually named Masks of Power: Legacy, first began. As the team grew, we realized that we wanted to achieve so much more than we could with that original version of the game, which is where development on the current rendition of BIONICLE: Masks of Power first began. The legacy version of the project received its final major update in May of 2021, and is currently available to download for free.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
