Beenox is advising Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II players to hold off on installing the latest NVIDIA game-ready drivers until a hotfix is released. The NVIDIA GeForce Game Ready 526.47 WHQL Driver was released on October 27 and players have reported crashing issues as well as the game consistently asking to verify and re-download up to 33 files before they can restart it. For the time being Beenox, and other players, are recommending using older drivers such as 516.59 or 522.25.

PC Gamer reached out to NVIDIA for comment and was told that it is working on a hotfix but that “This is specifically why our latest Game Ready Driver wasn’t promoted or recommended for this title in the first place.”

The 526.47 driver notes did indicate there was an open issue “[Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II] Flashing corruption can be seen randomly while playing the game. [3835099]”, but apparently there are more bugs than just that.

Using older drivers may not completely prevent all bug issues for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II but it has been said they should be less than using the current one. Those who have already updated to 526.47 are recommended to roll back to the previous one.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
