Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II continues to crush records, with Activision sharing a press release today that can confirm Infinity Ward’s new shooter, a re-imagining of the 2009 classic with main theme from Hans Zimmer, has crossed $1 billion sell-through in just 10 days. This is the fastest in the franchise’s long and successful history, according to Activision, which also noted that players have spent 200 million hours in the game since its release on October 28. The previous record holder belonged to Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which Treyarch released in 2012 but took 15 days to achieve a similar record.

Notes from Activision:

  • Modern Warfare II is the highest grossing entertainment opening of 2022.
  • Modern Warfare II is the #1 top selling opening in franchise history topping $800 million in sell-through following its first three days of release.
  • On November 16, the run continues with the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0.
