Ubisoft has clarified that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, a modernized version of Ubisoft Montréal’s 2003 action-adventure classic, has not been canceled and is still in development. The publisher offered the reassurance in an updated support article dated November 7, 2022, which includes further insight on the progress of the game and the franchise, such as how there are no plans at the moment to remake other Prince of Persia titles. Ubisoft also noted that existing pre-orders have been canceled and refunded, as the game still lacks a release date.

  • State of the game
    • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is not cancelled. The game is currently in development at Ubisoft Montréal.
  • Other remakes in the series
    • Beyond Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time there are currently no plans to remake any other Prince of Persia title.
  • Release date
    • At the moment, a new release date has not been set, we will provide new information on that front when we are ready.
  • Pre-order cancellations
    • Since the game currently does not have a release date, existing pre-orders have been cancelled and refunded where applicable.
    • Pre-orders may reopen once a new release date for the game has been announced.

Ubisoft revealed in May that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake would be led by Ubisoft Montréal instead of its Prune and Mumbai teams:

The development of Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal, the very birth place of the epic Sands of Time trilogy.

This decision is an important step and the team, building upon the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time they need to regroup on the scope of the game to deliver you the best experience for this remake of an all-time classic, when it’s ready.

We want to thank you all for your continuous support and patience throughout the development. Rest assured, that we will update you on the progress in a future update.
