Power and Temp
To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data. We use GPU-Z sensor data to record the results. We report on the GPU-Z sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data. For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU or Package Temp) as well as Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.
Power

In Board Power, the new GeForce RTX 4080 is the most efficient video card on this graph, even using less power than the GeForce RTX 3080! It’s more efficient than the RTX 3090 Ti, RTX 3090, RTX 3080 Ti, and RTX 3080. At 309W board power, it uses 32% less power than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and 13% less power than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. This tracks with NVIDIA’s claim that it should be 10% less power than the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Compared to the RTX 3080 the RTX 4080 even uses 5% less board power. What is high is the GPU Chip power, which is still 26% less power than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, but more than the RTX 3080, RTX 3090, RTX 3080 Ti, and even the RX 6900 XT. What matters most though is the board’s power, and that, as we can see, is very competitive.
Temperature

In addition to power utilization being efficient, the temperature on the GeForce RTX 4080 Founders Edition is also the coolest running GPU in this graph. At 64c GPU temp it’s even cooler than the robust coolers on the RTX 3080 Ti, RTX 3090, and RTX 3090 Ti. The Hot Spot temperature is also the coolest running. This cooler is doing an incredible job keeping the GPU cool. Other factors we noticed were that the fan speeds only got up to 41% and 38%, and the GPU Voltage was 1.0750V.
