Paramount Pictures has shared the first trailer for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the seventh installment of the live-action Transformers film series that began with Michael Bay’s 2007 feature.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starring Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is influenced by the fan-favorite Beast Wars storyline, which revolves around the war between the Maximals and Predacons, animal versions of Hasbro’s toy robots.
Leading the Maximals is the metal gorilla Optimus Primal, who can be seen in the trailer below meeting an Optimus Prime with a design that comes a lot closer to his iconic Generation 1 look than how he appeared in Bay’s films.
Peter Cullen returns to voice Optimus Prime, while Optimus Primal is voiced by Ron Perlman, star of Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy films.
“Returning to the action and spectacle that have captured moviegoers around the world, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will take audiences on a ‘90s globetrotting adventure and introduce the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons to the existing battle on earth between Autobots and Decepticons,” Paramount wrote of the film, which arrives in theaters June 9, 2023.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the follow-up to 2018’s Bumblebee, a reboot of the franchise that was directed by Travis Knight.
Lorne Balfe (Assassin’s Creed III, Top Gun: Maverick) will reportedly compose the score for the film.
