NVIDIA has confirmed that Portal with RTX, a breathtaking re-imagining of Valve’s classic 2007 puzzle-platform game with full ray tracing and DLSS 3, is now available through Steam and free to all Portal owners.

Benchmarks shared by NVIDIA suggest that the GeForce RTX 4090 can hit frame rates as high as 121.9 FPS in the ultra setting with full ray tracing enabled at 4K in Portal with RTX with the aid of its latest upscaling technology, DLSS 3, while the GeForce RTX 4080 can reach up to 88 FPS under similar settings.

“Portal with RTX is a free DLC for all Portal owners developed by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios,” notes a description for the game. “Experience the critically acclaimed and award-winning Portal reimagined with ray tracing. Every frame of gameplay is upgraded with stunning full ray tracing, new, hand-crafted hi-res physically based textures, and new, enhanced high-poly models evocative of the originals, all in stunning 4K.”

“In Portal with RTX, full ray tracing transforms each level, enabling light to bounce and be affected by the scene’s geometry and materials. Every light is ray-traced and casts shadows, global illumination indirect lighting naturally illuminates and darkens rooms, volumetric ray-traced lighting scatters through fog and smoke, and shadows are pixel perfect. Portal with RTX is compatible with all ray-tracing capable GPUs.”

An NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and GeForce RTX 3080 are listed as the recommended GPUs for the minimum and recommended specs for Portal with RTX, respectively.

Quake II is another classic game that received the RTX treatment thanks to NVIDIA’s Lightspeed Studios.
