WB Games and Avalanche Software have announced that Hogwarts Legacy for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will now be released on April 4, 2023, two months after the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions of the upcoming action role-playing game inspired by the Harry Potter novels are set to arrive (February 10, 2023).
The developer revealed the news on the official Hogwarts Legacy account this morning, and while it didn’t provide any specifics behind the delay, it did additionally confirm the release date of the Nintendo Switch version, which is set for July 25, 2023.
“Hogwarts Legacy will launch on April 4, 2023 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and on July 25, 2023 for Nintendo Switch,” a tweet reads. “The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms.”

This is not the first delay for Hogwarts Legacy, as WB Games and Avalanche Software had originally planned to launch the game in 2021 but ended up pushing it back twice: first to 2022, and then to 2023.
“J.K. Rowling is not involved in the creation of the game, but as creator of the wizarding world and one of the world’s greatest storytellers, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World,” notes a portion of the extensive FAQ that the developer has prepared to answer some of the bigger questions that fans might have regarding the game from Avalanche Software, whose previous credits include Disney Infinity 3.0 and Cars 3: Driven to Win.
“This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling, however we have collaborated closely with her team on all aspects of the game to ensure it remains in line with the magical experiences fans expect,” the developer added.
Hogwarts Legacy is described as an open-world, single-player, action role-playing videogame set in the 1800s wizarding world.
A Deluxe Edition of the game that will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC includes 72 hours early access to the game starting on February 7, 2023.
It is listed for $69.99 on Steam.
A second gameplay showcase for Hogwarts Legacy will be held tomorrow, December 14.
