Despite his Netflix reboot flopping with critics, Leatherface will return this year in another bid to scare audiences, albeit strictly in virtual form. Gun, the publisher best known for Friday the 13th: The Game, has announced that The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, an asymmetrical multiplayer action game based on the 1974 film of the same name from Sumo Digital, is set for release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store on August 18, 2023. Similar to Friday the 13th, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre challenges a group of players to take on a horror icon, but this time, it’ll be 3v4, with hopeful survivors having to fend off against not only the cannibalistic spree killer, but also his equally sadistic family members. A technical test for the game, which is “based on true events,” is scheduled for May 25, 2023.

From a Gun listing:

Take on the role of one of the notorious Slaughter family, or their victims, in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a third-person asymmetrical horror experience based on the groundbreaking and iconic 1974 horror film.

As a victim you must use your wits and stealth to stay out of the Family’s reach to find the tools you need to lead to your eventual freedom. Slaughter Family players must seek out, track down, and stop their guests from escaping. Players of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre can finally find out if they have what it takes to survive.

Experience the mad and macabre for yourself in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
