Horizon Forbidden West has sold over 8.4 million units as of April 16, 2023, Guerrilla Games announced today in a PlayStation.Blog post that was written to celebrate the Amsterdam-based studio’s 20th anniversary. The post, titled “20 Years of Guerrilla: The Story of a PlayStation Studio,” explains how the studio began with a small team that partially made Game Boy Color games, but things have grown tremendously, with sales of its latest franchise, Horizon, reaching 32.7 million thanks to the success of newer titles that include Forbidden West and Call of the Mountain. Guerrilla confirmed last month that it is working on a third mainline Horizon game starring Aloy, although that should come as little surprise based on how the sequel ended and the series’ strong sales performance.

From a PlayStation.Blog post:

Our studio’s grown from those early scrappy days to a massive group of hundreds of talented developers. And with us, the world of Horizon has also grown. Players have come face-to-face with our awe-inspiring machines in VR with Call of the Mountain. Comic books and board games are expanding the world. It’s truly humbling.

As of April 16, 2023, the Horizon franchise has sold through more than 32.7 million units worldwide, of which Horizon Forbidden West has sold through over 8.4 million units. Millions more around the world have discovered Horizon thanks to PlayStation’s subscription services and initiatives, including PlayStation Plus, and Play at Home. All told, it’s a milestone we never imagined possible twenty years ago when we first started making games.
