AMD has shared a video that can confirm it is the official PC partner for Starfield. This seems to imply that the latest game from Todd Howard and Bethesda Game Studios isn’t getting an official implementation of NVIDIA’s DLSS technologies (e.g., DLSS 3 Super Resolution, Reflex, and Frame Generation) any time soon, although Jack Huynh, SVP and GM of AMD’s Computing and Graphics Group, has promised that the collaboration will “unlock the full potential of Starfield.” Starfield is out on September 6, 2023, with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.

From a YouTube transcript:

Ever since Bethesda first announced Starfield, I have anticipated playing one of the biggest and most ambitious role-playing games that has been 25 years in the making.

Making this game even more special is the close collaboration between Bethesda and AMD to unlock the full potential of Starfield.

We have worked hand-in-hand with Bethesda Game Studios to optimize Starfield for both Xbox and PC with Ryzen 7000 series processors and Radeon 7000 series graphics.

These optimizations both accelerate performance and enhance the quality of your gameplay using highly multi-threaded code that both Xbox and PC players will get to take advantage of.

As a lifelong gamer, I’m super excited that the partnership with Bethesda and AMD will truly create a transformational experience with more immersion, more detail, and more exploration.

This has been a true partnership and I cannot wait for you to hear more from our friend, partner, and Starfield creator Todd Howard.

Thank you. We are so excited for our new partnership with AMD on Starfield. It really is the most ambitious game we’ve ever made.

We’ve built all new technology for it with Creation Engine 2 and working with AMD on that to make it look great and run great has been really, really special.

We have AMD engineers in our code base working on FSR2 image processing and upscaling and it looks incredible.

You’re going to get the benefits of that obviously on your PC but also on Xbox. We’re super excited and can’t wait to show everybody more. So thanks for having me.

We’re all here because we’re committed to the biggest question of all. What’s out there?

I cannot wait to play this game and explore over a thousand planets myself. We are humbled and honored to partner with Todd and Bethesda to bring the best of Starfield to everyone.
