ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 is launching as an AIB (add-in-board partner) made video card only. All this means is that there won’t be an NVIDIA Founders Edition of the video card. Therefore, we look toward custom AIB cards to represent the GeForce RTX 4060’s performance. In today’s review, we have a full retail packaged ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition (DUAL-RTX4060-O8G) video card for review.

As the name implies, this is a factory-overclocked video card and runs with a boost clock above NVIDIA’s specification. What’s impressive about that, is that the MSRP for the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition is only $299, which is the base MSRP. ASUS is not charging a price premium for the video card, even though it is a fully customized video card, with custom cooling, a factory overclock, and a dual-BIOS.

Starting with the default mode boost clock, the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition has a boost clock of 2505MHz out-of-the-box. This compares to the NVIDIA specification of a 2460MHz boost clock. That means the ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition will run 2% higher on GPU frequency out-of-the-box. In addition, there is a software-selectable option within ASUS GPU Tweak III software to hit an “OC” button and raise that boost clock to 2535MHz for a special OC mode, very easily and simply.

ASUS has put a Dual-BIOS on this video card, and there is a switch on the edge of the video card to switch between Performance Mode or Quiet Mode. By default, out of the box, the video card is set in Performance Mode. If you want to prioritize low core temps set it to Performance Mode, but if you want to prioritize noise levels set it to Quiet Mode.

In Performance Mode, the temperatures are kept very low, and acoustics are low and the fans stop under 50c. In Quiet Mode, the temperatures are kept low, and acoustics very low, also with the fans stopping under 50c. Quiet Mode keeps the same power target but offers a less aggressive fan curve for quieter operation. ASUS says in Performance Mode the GPU runs 18% cooler than in Quiet Mode. Or, the video card can be 5.25x quieter in Quite Mode. For our testing today, we left it in the default position of Performance Mode.

The ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition video card is a dual fan configuration using two Axial fans. The fans use smaller hubs that allow for longer blades and a barrier ring to increase downward air pressure. The fans also support 0db Technology which lets them stop spinning under 50c. The fans use Dual Ball bearings.

The entire video card is built around ASUS Auto-Extreme Technology which utilizes automated manufacturing processes to complete soldering in a single pass. This reduces thermal strain on components. It also goes through a 144-hour validation program. The video card utilizes a full-sized aluminum backplate that adds structural rigidity and protects components. The mounting bracket also uses beefed-up 304 Stainless Steel to add more rigidity and resistance to corrosion.

ASUS stresses this video card is perfect for compact builds in its small form factor. The ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 4060 OC Edition measures only 8.94 inches in length, 4.85 inches in width, and 1.95 inches in height, it is officially a 2.5-slot card. It has 1x HDMI 2.1a output connection and 3x DisplayPort 1.4a output connections. It uses a single 8-pin PCIe power connector for power and recommends a 550W PSU. This video card supports ASSU GPU Tweak III for full customization on overclocking or fan curve tweaking. The video card has no RGB, it has a very appealing stealth look to it.
