Blizzard has confirmed that it will be announcing Diablo IV’s first season during its next developer update livestream, which is scheduled to premiere on July 6 at 11 a.m. PDT. According to Rod Fergusson, general manager of the Diablo franchise who some say is “incredibly out of touch” for various reasons, players will need to create a fresh character for each and every season, although that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who has an inkling of experience with the last Diablo game. The livestream will also introduce a new class for Blizzard’s “late April Fool’s joke,” Diablo Immortal, along with more quality-of-life-updates for Diablo IV, which players say could definitely use more of (e.g., a dedicated gem tab).
We’ll kick off this livestream with a deep dive provided by senior narrative designer Ryan Quinn and lead user experience designer Chris Liao on the monstrous new Class coming to Diablo Immortal in mid-July. Then our host, associate director of community Adam Fletcher, will introduce associate game director Joseph Piepiora and lead game producer Timothy Ismay who will announce the first Season of Diablo IV, along with incoming quality-of-life updates. Players will also have the opportunity to ask our developers questions during a live Q&A session at the end of the livestream.
Following the conclusion of this hell-packed livestream, we’ll publish another article containing a video on demand so you can catch all the invitingly dark details at your own pace. We’ll also publish 2 new articles which extrapolate on the topics introduced during both the Diablo Immortal and Diablo IV segments of the livestream.
Hey Paul, yes to take part in the seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey and battle pass, you will need to create a new seasonal character. Playing campaign with seasonal character (if you so desire or need to finish) will also progress the season journey and battle pass.
