Blizzard has announced that the gates of hell will widen on Thursday, July 20 with Season of the Malignant, Diablo IV’s first season that promises a new Season Journey, Questline, Boss, Dungeons, Battle Pass, and more, including not one, not two, but six new Unique Items and seven new Legendary Aspects. A Battle Pass or any add-ons will not be required to play this new seasonal content, although players will want to ensure that they, at the very least, have completed Diablo IV’s campaign mode. Blizzard has also confirmed that there will be more items to spend real-life money on in the cosmetics shop beginning July 20, while Blood Knight, a new class for Diablo Immortal, is also coming July 13.

Diablo IV Season of the Malignant Highlights

  • New questline introducing Malignant Monsters
  • Malignant Hearts, a new drop that can be socketed into jewelry
  • Malignant Tunnels, new “highly replayable” dungeons
  • Varshan the Consumed, a new boss battle
  • Players only have to complete the campaign to participate in a season
  • Altars of Lilith, uncovered regions, mount, and more are carried over
  • Characters and items will transfer to Eternal Realm at end of season
  • New Legendary Aspects and more via Season Journey
  • Scroll of Amnesia offers free Skill Tree and Paragon Board reset

The Season of the Malignant Battle Pass begins on July 20, 10 a.m. PDT and hosts 90 Tiers, 27 Free Tiers and 63 Premium Tiers. Smoldering Ashes are earned from the Free Tiers, which can be spent on Season Blessings that provide you with a bonus to earning experience, Gold, or Obols depending on the Blessing you choose. The bonuses gained from Season Blessings only last until Season of the Malignant ends.

If you purchased the digital Deluxe or Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV and want to redeem your Battle Pass for this Season, navigate to the Seasons section of the Shop and select the option to activate your Battle Pass. Players also have the option to skip Tiers by spending Platinum at a cost of 200 Platinum per Tier skip. Keep in mind that your Tier Skip might unlock a Tier that rewards Smoldering Ashes, but you must meet certain Character Level requirements to claim them.
