Synthetic Storage Benchmarks

PCMark 10

We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.

In PCMark 10’s full system drive storage benchmark, the addlink S95 2TB SSD produces a total score of 3083. We have some SSDs here that are faster at access time, and thus the result, drives that use Host Memory Buffer, for example, tend to have faster access times which affects this score. However, at 3083 this is not a bad result at all for this benchmark, it’s about average out of the group of comparisons here. It is faster than the Netac NV7000, Lexar NM800 PRO, and Patriot Viper VPR400, all SSDs that we have recently tested.

The average access time test in PCMark 10’s Storage Benchmark shows you a closer look at where things line up. The addlink S95 2TB SSD has an access time of 55 microseconds, which is certainly not bad, it’s well under 60, which is very good. It again puts it above the Netac NV7000, Lexar NM800 PRO, and Patriot Viper VPR400 on access time, but there are a few SSDs that have quicker access times, so for PCMark, it’s about middle of the road. However, this does not tell the whole story, so read on to really find out where the addlink S95 shines, because there are some surprising results to see.

In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. In the quick system drive benchmark the addlink S95 2TB SSD performs nearly at the top of the graph, with the best performance. The addlink S95 has a DRAM cache, and a fast one at that, and this result proves that in these smaller workload traces. There are also other factors in play, such as write performance, which you are going to find is extremely good on the addlink S95 SSD as you read into the benchmarks on the following pages. Overall, we can see here the addlink S95 is fast at the day-to-day stuff.

PassMark PerformanceTEST

We are using PassMark’s PerformanceTEST Disk Mark benchmark only. This test benchmarks Disk Sequential Read, Disk Sequential Write, IOPS 32KQD20, IOPS 4KQD1 tests and outputs an overall score (higher is better.)

In PassMark PerformanceTEST the addlink S95 2TB SSD performs extremely fast, beating every other SSD by comparison. There is a reason for this, and that reason is write performance, as you will see on the next page, the addlink S95 is all about write performance.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the addlink S95 2TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD, which offers very impressive write performance, and above spec read performance across the board. It is packed with features, such as a DRAM cache, and above average endurance. This SSD lacks a heatsink, and it does get warm, some form of cooling is recommended for the high performance nature. The price is right, with appealing price value.
