Synthetic Storage Benchmarks
PCMark 10
We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.
In our benchmarks today, we are going to compare the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD to similar performing SSDs of this generation of PCIe Gen4. This is the 5000MB/s range of SSDs, and it makes sense to compare it to similarly performing SSDs to see where it lines up.
In PCMark 10’s full system drive storage benchmark, the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD performs very well, at 3066 in comparison to all the SSDs here. The newest one on the graph is the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400, and we find the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD beating it in PCMark 10 full system drive storage benchmark. The Lexar NM710 1TB is also much faster than the CORSAIR Force MP600, MSI SPATIUM M470, and Sabrent Rocket SSDs in this performance range.
The average access time test in PCMark 10’s Storage Benchmark shows you a closer look at where things line up. The Lexar NM710 1TB SSD performs extremely well here, with only 54 microseconds it has the fastest access time, beating the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400. It is a huge deal faster than the MSI SPATIUM M470, CORSAIR Force MP600, and Sabrent Rocket. This is a really good access time, and we generally see fast access times with Host Memory Buffer-supported SSDs.
In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. In the quick system drive benchmark the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD falls down the line, but this is normal for DRAM-less SSDs in this particular test, where we have seen a DRAM cache affect performance with small file access. The Lexar NM710 falls below the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 in this test, however.
PassMark PerformanceTEST
We are using PassMark’s PerformanceTEST Disk Mark benchmark only. This test benchmarks Disk Sequential Read, Disk Sequential Write, IOPS 32KQD20, IOPS 4KQD1 tests and outputs an overall score (higher is better.)
In PassMark PerformanceTEST the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD provides a 38601 overall score, which is about average or middle of the road when compared to the other SSDs in this lineup. It is faster than the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400.
