Throughput Benchmarks (SEQ and RND)

CrystalDiskMark

We are using CrystalDiskMark to benchmark sequential and random throughput of read and write performance. For these NVMe SSDs, we are using the NVMe profile in CrystalDiskMark. This tests SEQ1M Q8T1, SEQ128K Q32T1, RND4K Q32T16, and RND4K Q1T1.

The rated sequential read speed on the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD is up to 5000MB/s, and in our testing in SEQ1M Q8T1, we are getting that at 5040MB/s of read speed. This puts it above the quoted specification, and thus the SSD is performing strong and right where it should on read performance. At this level, that puts it second only to the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 which is a tad faster. Otherwise, it beats the other SSDs here, including the CORSAIR Force MP600, MSI SPATIUM M470, and Sabrent Rocket.

The Lexar NM710 1TB SSD is rated at 4500MB/s write speed, according to the website, in the best-case scenarios. In our testing, using the NVMe SSD profile in CrystalDiskMark, we got a 4477MB/s write performance in this specific test scenario. That does come just slightly short of the 4500MB/s quoted performance, but it is very tiny by 23MB/s. Therefore, it can be said that it is practically the same and at spec.

That write performance is very strong when in comparison to other SSDs of this caliber. It is second to the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400, but faster by a lot compared to the Sabrent Rocket and MSI SPATIUM M470. It is closer in performance to the write speed of the CORSAIR Force MP600.

In SEQ128K Q32T1 the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD is again hitting its mark on read performance at 5069MB/s. This puts it again only second to the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 and above the Sabrent Rocket, MSI SPATIUM M470, and CORSAIR Force MP600. On write speeds, we are getting 4468MB/s which falls in line with the previous testing.

Lexar NM710 1TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD CrystalDiskMark RND4K Q32T16

In RND4K Q32T16 performance the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD provides really good random write performance at 3451MB/s. The MSI SPATIUM M470 is faster on write performance, but other than that the Lexar NM710 is the second fastest. It is even above the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 by a great and noticeable deal. On read performance, it is faster than the Sabrent Rocket but does fall slightly under the CORSAIR Force MP600, and a larger amount under the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 on read performance.

Lexar NM710 1TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD CrystalDiskMark RND4K Q1T1

In RND4K Q1T1 performance, the Lexar NM710 1TB SSD is very strong, providing the second-fastest read performance at 69MB/s. The PATRIOT VIPER VPR400 is faster, but the Lexar NM710 is faster than the CORSAIR Force MP600, Sabrent Rocket, and MSI SPATIUM M470. ON write performance it is faster than the Sabrent Rocket and CORSAIR Force MP600, and slightly under the PATRIOT VIPER VPR400.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the Lexar NM710 1TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD, which is a value-oriented SSD from Lexar, as a DRAM-less SSD with 3D TLC NAND Flash and the Maxio MAP1602 controller. It offers top-tier 5000MB/s Gen4 performance in its class, and has competitive performance. For the right price, this SSD offers a great upgrade from older SSDs, in a slim and compact formfactor that can squeeze into compact builds.
