Hitman developer IO Interactive let a couple more details slip about its upcoming games that are still tightly under wraps. IO Interactive has been attending Gamelab Barcelona 2023 where some of its team were showing off their Glacier engine. While most of the focus was on the in-house engine they, of course, could not escape being questioned about Project 007 and Project Fantasy. Now while not much was shared they did add just a little bit more about the two games still in development. The folks at Gamereactor caught up with IO Interactive’s Core Engine Programmer Álvaro Fernández, and Senior Technical Executive Producer Chris Vega for a short interview that can be seen here.

Project 007

Project 007 was first announced in 2020 with the release of a one-minute teaser trailer. It is already known that the game will be centered origin of Bond, and could possibly be the start of a new trilogy. Chris Vega couldn’t add much more but said that “007 is under development, it’s looking very cool,” and added that “It’s going to tell the story of the first Bond and how it becomes the secret agent that he is, but that’s what we can comment on.”

IO Interactive has created a page for its Project 007 (working title) game that reinforces the above comments. The Hitman developer is still looking to hire more for its development team to finish the game so those who think they have the skills to get the job done may want to look into joining the team.

Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game to be developed and published by IO Interactive.

Featuring a wholly original Bond story, players will step into the shoes of the world’s favorite Secret Agent to earn their 00 status in the very first James Bond origin story.

IO Interactive is currently recruiting elite talent from around the world to join the team that will build out this exciting and unique gaming title.

Project Fantasy

Hitman developer IO Interactive first officially announced Project Fantasy earlier this year in February, although it had been mentioned previously in 2021 as a potential Xbox exclusive title. When asked about the game Álvaro Fernández reinforced they could not share much about it because it is not in their domain to do so but did say in regard to potential exclusivity they said “This is also [something where] there’s nothing clear for us, so I don’t think any word came out about any specifics about this, so we cannot comment on it.”

Vega added that “Yeah, [it’s an] online multiplayer RPG, and likely will be like any other IOI game, probably will be on console and PC, but nothing is confirmed, it’s still some years until it will release, so yeah.”

IO Interactive has been busy expanding its teams. The Danish-based studio has opened new offices (its fourth and fifth respectively) in Brighton and Istanbul recently. The duo who were at Gameslab Barcelona were particularly proud of IOI’s Glacier engine, especially since it’s an in-house engine they could literally do anything they wanted in terms of customizing it, especially for their needs as opposed to a one-size-fits-all approach when using another engine such as Unreal.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
