Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare are now available digitally for $49.99 through the Nintendo eShop and PlayStation Store ahead of their physical release, which remains set for October 13. According to the blog post from Rockstar, these new ports run at a frame rate of 30 FPS, up to 1080p resolution on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, up to 4K on the PlayStation 4 Pro, and in full 4K on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. Digital Foundry, which published a tech review of Red Dead Redemption and Undead Nightmare on PS4 today, has suggested that this is a lazy port, featuring low-resolution assets and other problems.

There are no upgrades to textures or models, no high-frame-rate option for PS5, the UI is still largely composed of 720p assets, there’s no version of the updated game for Xbox consoles, no version of the updated game for PC, no new post-process effects, and it now suffers from a significant animation issue during some cutscenes. It’s far from the kind of premium remastering effort that this game deserves, especially for the price.
