Sega has announced that it has canceled several unannounced video games, including HYENAS, the flashy, zero-gravity multiplayer FPS that Creative Assembly unveiled in June 2022. According to a press release that Sega Sammy Holdings shared today, the titles were killed off as a response to the profits that the company has been seeing from the European region, which have been described as being “low.” HYENA’s cancellation may come as a surprise to many, as the game held a PC closed beta not too long ago, from August 31 to September 11. Total War: PHARAOH, Creative Assembly’s latest game, is out on October 11, 2023.

In response to the lower profitability of the European region, we have reviewed the title portfolio of each development base in Europe and the resulting action will be to cancel “HYENAS” and some unannounced titles under development. Accordingly, we will implement a write-down of work-in-progress for titles under development.

HYENAS is a hero-based, multiplayer extraction shooter. Choose a Hyena to play as – each with a unique weapon, ability, and personality – to form a crew of three and steal valuable Merch. The action takes place on vast, themed ‘Plunderships’ returning to Mars from Earth, loaded with salvaged Merch for your crew to steal.
