Fans of FromSoftware’s award-winning game may only have to wait until a little after the new year for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree to arrive. A new rumor claims that FromSoftware is planning to release the DLC on February 5, 2024. The rumor also adds that Geoff Keighley has recently visited FromSoftware’s studios to help plan for its official showing at this year’s The Game Awards on December 7.

Given that Elden Ring had a very prominent showing at last year’s The Game Awards, where it won Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG, it does seem plausible that FromSoftware would want to premiere gameplay for the new DLC at this year’s event.

Shadow of the Erdtree Details:

“Rise, Tarnished, and let us walk a new path together. An upcoming expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is currently in development. We hope you look forward to new adventures in the Lands Between.”

Written above is the first official announcement for Elden Ring Shadow of The Erdtree which had been posted on FromSoftware’s social media page. Fans and media outlets were quick to catch on that the story will likely center on Miquella. It has been speculated that the DLC will continue a trend by FromSoftware with stories taking place in the past thus expanding the lore of its games.

Per PCGamesN:

“Exploring the past isn’t a new concept for FromSoftware. The first and only Dark Souls DLC, Artorias of the Abyss, sent players hundreds of years into the past to confront Manus, Father of the Abyss. Time travel isn’t something we’ve seen in Elden Ring, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see it in the future.”

There’s also a theory that this content could take place within Miquella’s dream as the character was last seen in a sleep state.

“There’s a chance the expansion could take place inside Miquella’s dream. We’ve seen this happen before during Fia’s questline, one of the best Elden Ring quests, giving you the opportunity to fight against a powerful dragon in Fia’s dream. We know Miquella is in a slumber state, and we may need to enter his mind to discover a completely new realm.”

Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
