Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is already beginning to bask in a new swath of rave reviews and the question about what’s next is already being asked of its developers. The latest installment from Insomniac Games sees the introduction of Venom to the current game series and, of course, some folks are wondering if the iconic villain/anti-hero could get its own spin-off game. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 video game director Jon Paquette shared thoughts on the possibility with Insider saying that it’s basically up to the fans.

From Insider:

“So, here’s what we’re doing. We’re focused on ‘Spider-Man 2,’ and what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna wait to see how the fans react,” he said. “We’re gonna listen to the fans and we’re gonna ask ourselves, ‘Okay, what do the fans really want?'”

Jon goes on to say that, for now, the most immediate concerns for the team are well-deserved, rest and relaxation. “We’ll kind of talk about stuff after we’ve all had time to sleep and take vacations,” he added.

Tony Todd as Venom

Venom is voiced by Tony Todd, who with over 250 acting credits to his name, was an obvious choice for the developers to bring the character to life in the third game from Insomniac Games. From video games to animation, television to film, science fiction to horror, and drama, Todd has an extensive range of acting experience which no doubt caught the attention of the developers when they began thinking of who would take on the role. Paquette shared that it was Bryan Intihar, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 creative director, who suggested Todd for the role. It was only after a few lines from Todd were submitted to the team that they knew they had found the perfect person for the role.

“So, we brought Tony in and he submitted a few lines for kind of an audition. And it was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, this is the exact vibe that we’re going for,'” recalled the narrative director. “He fits it perfectly. Once Brian had the idea we were all like, ‘How do we make this happen?'”

Jon goes on to reminisce about being a kid reading Secret Wars #8 where the original Spider-Man black suit had been introduced, to newer stories that have developed backstories for the symbiotes. It’s evident that Paquette is well-versed in the character and would have no problem finding more content for another game.

“There’s such a rich universe there, and there’s a lot that the comics have done. We tried to take all that in, and then forget about it, and think about what would be best for our characters and our franchise,” added Paquette.”

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is now available for PlayStation 5.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
