BioWare is currently developing a new Mass Effect game, but it seems that the staff has been taking way too many lunch breaks at the Citadel.

Speaking during Giant Bomb’s Game Mess Mornings show yesterday, GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb shared some supposed news about Mass Effect 5, claiming that the game, which may or may not see the return of Commander Shepard, is unlikely to surface until 2029.

Grubb came to this conclusion based on Dreadwolf’s progress, the new Dragon Age game from BioWare that still hasn’t received a new trailer since the teaser that debuted during the 2020 Game Awards:

You want some original reporting? This game is just nowhere near coming out.

I was told that when they revealed Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018, this is similar in terms of timeline. That was announced in 2018 and we’re not getting that game until maybe next year.

So now do the math for that, and we’re talking 2029 for Mass Effect 5.

Grubb goes on to suggest that the Mass Effect 5 teaser that BioWare released this week was just something that the dev quickly threw together to appease those tuning into N7 Day, which may not be too far fetched, considering what little was shown:

When I asked, it was just like, ‘hey, is this just because they have to do something for N7 Day?’ Yes. For this thing, that’s all this is.

GameSpot’s Tamoor Hussain, who also took part in the broadcast, also claimed that he’s heard similar things about the new Mass Effect failing to deliver any time soon:

I’ve heard some things as well, and this game is so far away. It is so far in another galaxy right now.
