Monolith Productions is working a new Wonder Woman Game, and while it’s unclear whether Gal Gadot might show up in a cameo, the title will apparently be a live service product.

This is according to a new job ad that can be found at Warner Bros. Discovery, which can confirm that Monolith is currently looking for a new lead to join its Gameplay team (Lead Software Engineer, to be exact), and not only that, this person will need to have some sort of experience with “a live software product or game.”

The bullet point can be found in Monolith’s “Nice to Haves” list, which also calls for experience in developing for consoles, including, of course, PlayStation and Xbox:

  • People management experience
  • Experience helping maintain a live software product or game
  • Experience developing against console platforms (Xbox, PS, etc.)
  • Experience working in agile processes, such as Scrum

Monolith’s ad also seems to confirm that the game will feature the Nemesis system, a system that was originally introduced in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, allowing players to go up against procedurally generated enemies:

As a Gameplay Lead, you will lead the team responsible for core gameplay systems inherent to Monolith’s proprietary engine, including combat, movement, the Nemesis system, and more! You will collaborate closely with our design team to coordinate the implementation of these systems, and represent the interests of the Gameplay team throughout the studio.

David Zaslav, Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO, also happened to mention during a recent earnings call that the company plans to double down on live-service games, which already includes the likes of Mortal Kombat 1 and Gotham Knights.

Here’s what Zaslav had to say, per a transcript from Seeking Alpha:

…similar to the leaders in the industry, we’ve led with multiple key franchises, each of which is $1 billion gaming property. Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, DC, which is mainly Batman today, and Mortal Kombat, whose most recent release, Mortal Kombat 1 has sold nearly 3 million copies since its launch in mid-September. So we’ve got the proven IP and franchises, the world class studios and publishing talent and we intend to continue to invest more capital and more resources into the business.

Our focus is on transforming our biggest franchises from largely console and PC based with three-four year release schedules to include more always on gameplay through live services, multiplatform and free-to-play extensions with the goal to have more players spending more time on more platforms. Ultimately we want to drive engagement and monetization of longer cycles and at higher levels. We have put specific capabilities. We are currently under scale and see significant opportunity to generate greater post purchase revenue.

Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game was originally announced at The Game Awards 2021, although it’s unclear what stage of development the game is really at these days.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Monolith’s most recent game, was released in October 2017.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, its predecessor, came out three years earlier, in September 2014.
