Is it safer to wait for the GeForce RTX 50 Series or splurge on NVIDIA’s new collection of Ada gaming GPUs?

New rumors suggest that the latter may not be the worst idea, as performance estimates for the GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series have appeared online, indicating some nice improvements over the existing series—or, at least, for certain models.

Here’s the performance claims from Wccftech’s sources, which, if true, would mean improved performance of anywhere from a paltry 3% to over 15% for the new GeForce RTX 4070 “Ti SUPER”:

  • RTX 4080 SUPER vs RTX 4080: +3-5% Faster On Average
  • RTX 4070 Ti SUPER vs RTX 4070 Ti: +15% Faster On Average
  • RTX 4070 SUPER vs RTX 4070: +14% Faster On Average

And here are the supposed specs for each of the new SUPER models, which appear to use new GPUs:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER

  • AD103-400 GPU (PG139 SKU 355)
  • 10,240 cores
  • 320 TMUs
  • 112 ROPs
  • 64 MB of L2 cache
  • 256-bit bus interface (16 GB GDDR6X memory?)
  • 320-watt TGP, same as RTX 4080 Non-SUPER

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER

  • AD103-275 / AD102-175 GPU SKUs (PG141 SKU 323)
  • 8,448 cores
  • 48 MB of L2 cache
  • 16 GB of GDDR6 memory (4 GB VRAM upgrade vs the RTX 4070 Ti Non-SUPER
  • 256-bit bus interface
  • 285 Watt TGP (same as the Non-SUPER variant)

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER

  • AD104-350 or AD103-175 SKU (PG141 SKU 335)
  • 7,168 cores
  • 48 MB of L2 cache
  • 12 GB GDDR6X memory
  • 192-bit bus interface
  • 220-watt TBP (20 watts higher than existing 4070)

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is also said to feature the newer Gen 5 power connector, unlike the current model, which may come with either an 8-pin or 16-pin connector.

NVIDIA is expected to announce its GeForce RTX 4080, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPUs during its Special Address at CES 2024.

This address is set for January 8 at 8:00 a.m. PDT.
