The Mishimas aren’t the only ones who will be beating people up with lightning effects in the latest TEKKEN game.

Bandai Namco completed its launch roster of 32 fighters for TEKKEN 8 today with the announcement of Reina, an all-new female fighter that not only sports purple hair, but can utilize lightning-fast attacks.

More specifically, she’s a practitioner of Taido, a fighting style that has been described by Kohei Ikeda, TEKKEN 8’s game director, as being an acrobatic one:

Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style rooted in Taido, using swift and brutal techniques such as knife-hand strikes, eye pokes, and scratching that reflect her character. She utilizes a special movement called Sentai to close the distance quickly and launch rushes, while Unsoku allows her to deliver powerful attacks with agile footwork, demonstrating a speedy and aggressive combat approach.

It also looks like Reina might be a potential successor to Heihachi, the guy who is fondly remembered for throwing his son down a volcano:

In addition, Reina has somehow acquired techniques like Wind God Fist and Spinning Demon, synonymous with the Mishima-style karate, and even exhibits a power fighter aspect, delivering powerful moves from the Heaven’s Wrath stance once used by Heihachi, who is now deceased. Her offensive capabilities near walls, in particular, are among the most potent of all characters.

Reina, who’s a student at the Mishima Polytechnical School, is also said to be pretty obsessed about fighting Jin, Kazuya’s son, both of whom can be found on the cover art of the latest TEKKEN game.

A 4K trailer that shows off Reina in action can be found below.

TEKKEN 8 is launching on January 26, 2024, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

The game starts at $69.99, while Deluxe and Ultimate editions are also available for $99.99 and $109.99, respectively, featuring a Year 1 Pass with additional playable characters and other perks.
