Blizzard has shared its 2024 roadmaps for World of Warcraft and World of Warcraft Classic, confirming that World of Warcraft: The War Within and World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic, the MMORPGs’ next major expansions, will be released by the coming summer.

Here’s the word from Holly Longdale, World of Warcraft’s relatively new Executive Producer, who mentioned some of the big updates that the franchise saw this year alone (e.g., six Dragonflight content updates) before going on to tease what’s to come for players in 2024:

In these updates, we’ll be wrapping up the story for this expansion and laying the foundation for our next one. Dragonflight Season 4 will revisit Dragonflight’s dungeons and raids, along with outdoor content, featuring updated rewards, and a few new twists. Then, in the Spring/Summer, we’ll ask for your feedback when the War Within expansion alpha and beta tests drop. We will continue to communicate details, dates, and more goodness as we get closer to content updates, just like this year! Well, most of it anyway (we’ll have some surprises in store too!). Coming up next in January, we have the Seeds of Renewal content update on tap and we’re currently keeping an eye on your feedback on the live public test realms (PTR) for this update.

In WoW Classic, we have updates coming for Classic Hardcore with “Self Found” support in February as a new way to challenge players and add a little more hardcore into your Hardcore. Lok’tar ogar! We’ll also have more phases to release in Season of Discovery next year as the adventure continues. And, of course, Cataclysm Classic is right around the corner in the first half of next year!

The War Within begins with an ancient civilization rising to power deep beneath the surface of the planet, as heroes of both the Alliance and Horde alike are bombarded with visions—some are of the Light, while others see an alternate, darker fate,” reads a story description for World of Warcraft: The War Within, a new expansion that will mark the beginning of The Worldsoul Saga, a new trilogy of expansions that Blizzard announced during this year’s BlizzCon.

As for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic, players who are interested in trying out the new server option for the 2010 expansion can sign up for its beta beginning today.

“Players can tackle this milestone expansion again with new quality-of-life changes, including a faster content cadence, improved leveling experience, expanded Collections UI, and more!” Blizzard said in its news post, noting that Cataclysm Classic will be included with a World of Warcraft Subscription or Game Time.
