The ultimate storage companion for content creators, this high-performance drive is designed for effortlessly capturing, storing, and transporting essential files, videos, and photos.
With read speeds of up to 2000MB/s, the LaCie Rugged Mini SSD features USB 3.2 gen 2×2 (USB 20Gbps) technology offering compatibility with USB 40Gbps, USB 10Gps, Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 3 hosts including those found in the latest Apple iPhone, MacBook, and iPad products, as well as PCs, and other portable computing devices.

Yea they are just following the market. They want you to use these with your RED magic cameras now so they can charge a premium price.
Yup. It was always premium priced products - stuff just like this, external drives and docking bays. It would be just like stuff you could buy elsewhere, but in colors that matches Mac products, and formatted OS X compatible. At a 50%+ markup.
But for a time it was one of the few places you could get Thunderbolt (and before that, Firewire) enclosures, before TB and USB kinda merged.
