CD PROJEKT, the developer and publisher behind Cyberpunk 2077 and the Witcher games, will continue to operate as an independent entity despite what is apparently rising speculation as to whether the Polish company, founded in May 1994, might be victim to a hostile takeover or other type of acquisition by another party.

That’s according to Adam KiciƄski, CSO of CD PROJEKT, who was interviewed by Parkiet last month and told the local paper that the company has no interest in being acquired, with one reason being that CD PROJEKT is only going to get stronger in the coming years.

“We are not interested in being included in any larger entity. We have worked all our lives to get to our current position. We believe that in a few years, we will be even bigger and stronger,” KiciƄski, who previously served as CD PROJEKT’s CEO before switching to his new role as CSO on January 1, said based on a machine translation.

“These are just rumors. We have always had a clear position, supported by the regulations included in the statute (aimed at preventing a hostile takeover – ed.).
We have ambitious plans and we are passionate about what we do,” KiciƄski added, stating that “independence is really attractive.”

On the flip side, CD PROJEKT won’t be making any acquisitions of its own any time soon, according to KiciƄski, who mentioned elsewhere in the interview that CD PROJEKT is open to the idea but has no such plans right now. (“
we are not interested in purchases that would only aim to include the acquired companies in our group and consolidate their financial results. We don’t see the value in it.”)

CD PROJEKT is currently managing at least five projects, including Project Polaris, the first part of a new Witcher trilogy, and Project Orion, a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.

Project Hadar, an original IP, is also in the works.

“CD Projekt is the largest studio in Poland, the company is valued at several billion zlotys on the stock exchange,” the interviewer noted.
