Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is free to claim from the Epic Games Store until Thursday, January 11 at 11:00 a.m.

Here’s a description and trailer of the action-adventure game from Eidos-Montréal, which normally retails for $59.99 and is described by some as being one of the best superhero titles of all time:

Fire up Star-Lord’s jet boots for a wild ride across the cosmos in this third-person action-adventure game, a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. With the unpredictable Guardians at your side, blast your way from one explosive situation to another, with original and iconic Marvel characters caught in a struggle for the fate of the universe. You got this. Probably.

LEAD THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

You play as Star-Lord, so nothing’s off-limits with your bold combat style, from Element Blasters and jet boot-powered dropkicks to tag-team beat-downs. With the Guardians fighting at your side, call the shots and overwhelm your opponents with signature attacks. Meanwhile, the consequences of your decisions will range from light-hearted to downright unexpected as your journey unfolds.

ALL-NEW STORY

Your newly-formed band of legendary misfits is set to save the universe in this fresh but faithful take on the Guardians of the Galaxy. Somehow, you set off a chain of catastrophic events, leading to a wild ride through mind-blowing worlds inhabited by iconic and original Marvel characters. Turn up the all-star ‘80s mixtape and get ready to kick it.

FROM MISFITS TO SUPER HEROES

You’re the only thing holding the unpredictable Guardians together, so you’ll have to get better at this leadership thing fast. With this offbeat approximation of a family at your side, there will be tears and laughter as you set about tearing into the cosmos together. Whatever’s waiting around the next corner, you know it’s going to be a blast.

“The Eidos-Montréal team is honored to have the opportunity to work on such an iconic franchise alongside our trusted collaborators at Marvel Entertainment,” said David Anfossi, Head of Studio at Eidos-Montréal, in 2021 for the game’s release. “Our teams are known for revisiting IPs and bringing their own twists and craft to the stories and the art surrounding them. As you will experience, it’s no different for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.”

“A distinct mix of sci-fi, family drama, and rock n’ roll attitude with an edgy aesthetic is the foundation for our Guardians franchise”, added Jay Ong, EVP and Head of Marvel Games. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Eidos-Montréal knowing they are the team that can deliver on this core promise. The team’s laser-focused vision for our beloved band of misfits shines in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. We are excited for our fans to play it this October.”

The Epic Games Store’s next freebie is Sail Forth, an indie game where players can sail a fleet of customizable ships, expand their boat crews, and fight pirates.

“Sail a fleet of customizable ships across an ocean whose ancient depths have swallowed the key to the mysterious past,” reads a description for the game from Festive Vector. “Befriend fishfolk to expand your boat crews, take up arms against petulant pirates, and chart a course across an expansive watery world.”
