GameStop has announced that it will be shutting down its NFT marketplace on February 2, just a year and a half after the platform was originally launched, on July 11, 2022. Users will no longer be able to buy, sell, or create NFTs from that date, according to an important update that can be found on the official website.

Important update:

  • “GameStop has decided to wind down our NFT marketplace due to the continuing regulatory uncertainty of the crypto space.”
  • “Effective as of February 2, 2024, customers will no longer be able to buy, sell or create NFTs. Your NFTs are on the blockchain and will remain accessible and saleable through other platforms.”

Original press release from July 2022:

GameStop Corp. announced that it has launched its non-fungible token (“NFT”) marketplace to allow gamers, creators, collectors and other community members to buy, sell and trade NFTs. The Company’s NFT marketplace is a non-custodial, Ethereum Layer 2-based marketplace that enables parties to truly own their digital assets, which are represented and secured on the blockchain.

The marketplace, which can be accessed at https://nft.gamestop.com, allows parties to connect to their own digital asset wallets such as the recently launched GameStop Wallet. Over time, the marketplace will expand functionality to encompass additional categories such as Web3 gaming, more creators and other Ethereum environments.

GameStop’s description for NFTs:

NFTs (non-fungible tokens) are digital assets on blockchains that can be used to represent unique items, such as digital collectibles, art, game items, community membership, and much more. NFTs provide interesting properties for digital assets in that they are identifiable, ownable, scarce, and provably authentic.
