Apple is currently developing prototypes of at least two foldable iPhones, sources with The Information have learned. The company has reportedly been thinking about releasing a clamshell smartphone for years, but previous rumors would suggest that the “iPhone Flip” (iFold?) could finally be out in a just a few years’ time.

Design details:

  • Clamshell format, à la Galazy Z Flip 5
  • Half as thin as current iPhone models
  • Will feature a second display on the outside, presumably for notifications

What the foldable iPhone could look like:

Current foldables include:

  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Motorola Razr+
  • OnePlus Open
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

iPhone 15 pricing:

  • iPhone 15 (from $799)
  • iPhone 15 Plus (from $899)
  • iPhone 15 Pro (from $999)
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max (from $1,199)

Thoughts from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo:

I expected Apple to launch a foldable iPhone as soon as 2024 in my reports last year, but now it’s clear this prediction needs to be revised. I predict Apple may launch its first foldable product in 2025 at the earliest, which may be a foldable iPad or a hybrid of iPad & iPhone.
